Breast cancer screening at Focus Diagnostics
Screening can find changes in the breast early, when they are often easier to treat. From 1 to 31 October, a mammogram is ₹350 (regular ₹3,500) and a USG sono-mammogram ₹1,000 (regular ₹2,000) for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Mammogram or sono-mammogram?
- What it is
- MammogramA low-dose X-ray picture of the breasts, read by a radiologist.
- Sono-mammogramAn ultrasound scan of the breasts using sound waves. It uses no radiation.
- Often advised for
- MammogramRoutine screening, usually from the age of 40 — or earlier if your doctor recommends it, for example when there is a family history of breast cancer.
- Sono-mammogramYounger women, dense breast tissue, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and a closer look at a lump or an area seen on a mammogram.
- What to expect
- MammogramEach breast is pressed briefly between two plates to get a clear picture. It can feel uncomfortable for a few seconds.
- Sono-mammogramGel is applied and a small handheld probe is moved over the breast. It is painless.
- Before your visit
- MammogramAvoid deodorant, powder or lotion on your chest and underarms that day. If you still have periods, the week after your period is usually the most comfortable time. Tell us if you might be pregnant.
- Sono-mammogramNo special preparation is needed.

What do the tests cost during the offer?
A mammogram (both breasts) is ₹350 instead of ₹3,500, and a USG sono-mammogram is ₹1,000 instead of ₹2,000.
Which centres offer these tests?
Mammograms are available at 5 of our centres, and sono-mammograms at 13 centres. The full list is on this page, and the booking form only shows centres that offer the test you choose.
Should I have a mammogram or a sono-mammogram?
It depends on your age, your breast tissue and why you are being tested. A mammogram is commonly used for routine screening from 40, while a sono-mammogram is often used for younger women or to look more closely at a particular area. Sometimes both are advised. Your doctor is the best person to guide you.
Is a mammogram painful?
Most women feel firm pressure for a few seconds while each picture is taken. Booking for the week after your period can make it more comfortable.
I have noticed a lump or another change. Should I wait for a screening?
No. If you notice a lump, pain, discharge from the nipple, or a change in the skin or shape of the breast, please see a doctor promptly rather than waiting for a routine screening.
