Get reliable diagnostics, expert support, and a seamless booking experience with Focus Diagnostics.
About this test
The Anti-Nuclear Antibody (ANA) IFA Qualitative Test is a specialized blood test that detects the presence or absence of Anti-Nuclear Antibodies (ANA) using the Indirect Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA) method. ANAs are autoantibodies that mistakenly target components of the cell nucleus and are commonly associated with a variety of autoimmune diseases.
The ANA IFA Qualitative Test is widely used as an initial screening test for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Sjögren's syndrome, Systemic Sclerosis (Scleroderma), Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD), and other autoimmune connective tissue disorders. A qualitative result reports whether ANA antibodies are positive or negative. If the result is positive, additional tests such as ANA Titer, ANA Pattern, or Extractable Nuclear Antigen (ENA) Panel may be recommended for further evaluation.
Benefits of the Test
- Detects Anti-Nuclear Antibodies using the gold-standard IFA method.
- Helps screen for autoimmune connective tissue diseases.
- Supports early diagnosis of systemic autoimmune disorders.
- Assists physicians in selecting appropriate follow-up testing.
- Helps evaluate patients with unexplained autoimmune symptoms.
- Supports diagnosis alongside clinical examination and laboratory findings.

Patient-Friendly Summary
The Anti-Nuclear Antibody (ANA) IFA Qualitative Test is a blood test that checks whether Anti-Nuclear Antibodies are present in your blood. These antibodies may develop when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells. A positive ANA test may be associated with autoimmune diseases such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Sjögren's syndrome, Systemic Sclerosis, and other connective tissue disorders. However, a positive ANA result alone does not confirm a diagnosis and must be interpreted along with your symptoms, medical history, and additional laboratory tests. This safe and reliable blood test requires only a blood sample and generally does not require fasting.
