Rubella IgG Avidity Test

The Rubella IgG Avidity Test is a specialized blood test used to determine whether a Rubella virus infection occurred recently or in the more distant past. It measures the strength (avidity) with which Rubella-specific IgG antibodies bind to the virus.

Following a primary rubella infection, IgG antibodies initially bind weakly to the virus (low avidity). Over the following weeks to months, the immune response matures and produces antibodies that bind much more strongly (high avidity). Measuring antibody avidity helps doctors estimate when the infection occurred.
