About this test
SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) IgG Antibody Test – CLIA
The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) IgG Antibody Test – CLIA is a laboratory blood test that detects Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies produced by the body's immune system after infection with SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, or following COVID-19 vaccination.
This test is performed using Chemiluminescent Immunoassay (CLIA) technology, a highly sensitive and automated laboratory method capable of detecting low levels of antibodies in serum.
Following SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination, the immune system develops antibodies that help recognize the virus. IgG antibodies generally become detectable approximately 1–3 weeks after infection or vaccination and may remain detectable for months, although antibody levels usually decline over time. A positive IgG result indicates previous exposure or an immune response but does not guarantee complete immunity or protection against reinfection.
The SARS-CoV-2 IgG Antibody Test is not intended to diagnose an active COVID-19 infection. Individuals with current symptoms or recent exposure should undergo RT-PCR (NAAT) or an approved rapid antigen test for diagnosis. Antibody tests are mainly used to determine previous exposure, support epidemiological studies, or assist selected clinical evaluations.
This test may be useful for:
- Detecting previous SARS-CoV-2 infection.
- Assessing antibody response after COVID-19 vaccination (when clinically indicated).
- Supporting epidemiological and seroprevalence studies.
- Identifying individuals with evidence of prior exposure.
- Clinical and public health research.
Test Purpose
The SARS-CoV-2 IgG Antibody Test helps to:
- Detect IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2.
- Assess previous COVID-19 infection.
- Evaluate antibody response following vaccination.
- Support epidemiological investigations.
- Complement other COVID-19 laboratory investigations.
Benefits
- Highly sensitive CLIA technology.
- Automated laboratory testing.
- Requires only a simple blood sample.
- Detects previous immune response.
- Useful for serological surveillance.
- Supports clinical and research applications.
Why Doctors Recommend This Test
Doctors may recommend this test for:
- Individuals with previous COVID-19 infection.
- Evaluation of prior SARS-CoV-2 exposure.
- Selected post-vaccination antibody assessment.
- Clinical research.
- Occupational health assessments.
- Public health surveillance.
Preparation Before the Test
No fasting or special preparation is required.
Inform your healthcare provider about:
- Previous COVID-19 infection
- COVID-19 vaccination history
- Date of symptom onset
- Recent exposure
- Immunosuppressive medications
- Immune disorders
A venous blood sample is collected for serum analysis.
