TZANCK SMEAR

The TZANCK SMEAR is a rapid and simple cytological test used to diagnose certain viral skin infections, especially those caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) and Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV). It is performed on samples taken from fresh skin lesions such as blisters, erosions, or ulcers.

In this test, cells are scraped from the base of a skin lesion and placed on a glass slide.
