Inform the collection centre if the sample was contaminated with stool, toilet water, menstrual blood or another substance, as recollection may be necessary.

Fasting is generally not required solely for a spot urine uric acid test. However, recent diet can influence uric acid excretion. Organ meats, red meat, certain seafood, alcohol and other purine-rich foods may affect results. Do not make sudden or extreme dietary changes unless the doctor has provided specific instructions.

Maintain your usual fluid intake unless the doctor has advised fluid restriction or another preparation method.
