X-Ray

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an X-Ray?

An X-Ray is a common diagnostic imaging test that uses a small amount of radiation to create images of the inside of your body, especially bones and joints.

Why is an X-Ray scan done?

X-Rays help detect bone fractures, joint dislocations, lung infections, dental issues, and monitor conditions like arthritis or chest problems.

How does an X-Ray work?

During an X-Ray scan, a machine sends controlled X-ray beams through the body onto a detector; different tissues absorb radiation differently, creating a detailed image.

Is an X-Ray scan safe?

Yes — medical X-Rays use a very low dose of radiation and are considered safe when performed by trained technicians under standard protocols.

Do I need to prepare before an X-Ray?

For most X-Rays, no special preparation is needed. You may be asked to remove metal objects like jewellery or belts that can interfere with image quality.

How long does an X-Ray take?

Most X-Ray procedures are quick and typically take only a few minutes, including positioning and image capturing.

Is an X-Ray scan painful?

No — X-Ray scans are painless. You may feel slight pressure from positioning, but the process itself does not cause pain.

When will I get my X-Ray results?

The images are usually reviewed by a radiologist and reports are available quickly—often within the same day or within 24 hours, depending on the facility’s workflow.

Can X-Rays detect lung infections?

Yes — chest X-Rays are commonly used to detect lung infections, pneumonia, tuberculosis, and other thoracic conditions.

Are there any risks associated with X-Ray scans?

X-Rays are generally safe. Although they use radiation, the amount is very low and the benefits in diagnosis outweigh the minimal risk when performed appropriately.
